This is a short notice you can adapt and show to your players before they use the sportsbook, for example on a page linked next to the sportsbook, in your community rules or in your own terms. It is a starting point, not legal advice.
- You are responsible for what you tell your players. You run your community, your tokens and your player relationship. Check this text against the laws of every country where your players are, and change it where needed. Our Terms, our Acceptable Use & Play-for-Fun Policy and our Data Processing Addendum require you to give your players clear information. This template contains the disclosures required by sections 8.1 and 9.2 of the Acceptable Use & Play-for-Fun Policy, in fuller form than the model in its Annex A, and the player information required by Section 4.2 of the Data Processing Addendum.
- Fill in the parts in square brackets, for example
[Operator name]. Delete the optional parts you don't use. - Keep the core statements. These are: play-for-fun only; tokens have no monetary value and can't be bought, sold, transferred or cashed out; players must not sell, buy, trade or transfer tokens or player accounts anywhere, and you may remove tokens and block accounts obtained or used that way; no prizes of monetary value; minimum age 18 (or higher where local law requires); you run the community; the sportsbook software is provided by a technology provider on your behalf (naming The Sportsbook as that provider is optional); a negative balance is not a debt; and the paragraph in section 6 about The Sportsbook's own use of player data, with its reference to section 4.8 of our Privacy Policy. That paragraph names The Sportsbook because players need to know who uses their data for its own purposes; keep it even if you don't name The Sportsbook as the provider elsewhere. You may make them stricter. Do not add anything that contradicts them, such as a reward of monetary value linked to the sportsbook.
- This notice does not replace your own terms and privacy notice. Your privacy notice must cover how you use your players' data, and you should link to it from section 6. If you load your logo or icons from an external address instead of uploading them, mention in your privacy notice that the player's browser fetches them from that site.
- Show players the version in their language. The English and Spanish versions below are equivalent.
- Do not remove or cover the notice shown in the sportsbook's footer.

1. Play-for-fun only
The sportsbook on [site / app / community name] is a free game for entertainment. You bet with [token name], our community tokens. No real money is staked, won or paid out, and nothing you win has any monetary value.
2. Tokens have no monetary value
[Token name] are not money, a currency, a crypto-asset or property of any kind. They can't be bought, sold, traded, transferred to another player, or exchanged or cashed out for money, crypto, gift cards, items or anything else of value. You must not sell, buy, trade or transfer [token name] or your player account, or offer to do so, here or on any other site or market. [Operator name] may remove tokens, and block accounts, obtained or used in that way. We may give, adjust, reset or remove tokens at any time, for example to correct mistakes or when an account breaks our rules. 3. You must be 18 or over
You must be at least 18 years old [or: at least [age] years old, or the minimum legal age in your country if higher] to use the sportsbook. [Operator name] may block anyone who does not meet this rule.
4. Who runs this sportsbook
[Operator name] runs this community and its sportsbook, decides who can play, gives out the tokens and is responsible for them. The provider does not know who you are, has no account relationship with you and does not handle any money for this sportsbook. 5. Odds, results and bets
Odds, fixtures, results and live match information come from third-party sports data sources and are shown for entertainment only. They may be delayed, incomplete or wrong. Odds can change until a bet is accepted, and live bets may wait a few seconds and be re-priced before they are accepted. Some bets are checked manually before they are settled. If a result is corrected, bets may be re-settled or voided and your token balance adjusted, even after you have used your tokens, and your balance can go below zero. This sportsbook is not affiliated with or endorsed by any league, team, competition or event organiser. Nothing here is betting advice. A negative balance is not a debt: you will never be asked to pay anything to restore it.
6. Your data
[Operator name] is responsible for your personal data in this sportsbook. To run it, we share with our sportsbook software provider an identifier we give you (not your email or real name) [optional: and your display name], and your language. The provider records your bets, your token balance [if managed wallet] and token movements. Your IP address and browser information are used to deliver the sportsbook and prevent abuse, and appear in short-lived hosting logs. The provider processes this data on our behalf and following our instructions.
The Sportsbook (thesportsbook.app), the provider of the sportsbook software, also uses this data as a separate controller for a few purposes of its own: keeping its service secure, checking that sportsbooks follow its rules (including the ban on real-money use), counting active players for billing, producing anonymous statistics, and meeting legal obligations and dealing with legal claims. It explains this, and how you can exercise your rights with it, at thesportsbook.app/legal/privacy (section 4.8). You can contact it at support@thesportsbook.app. The provider and its hosting companies may process data outside your country, including in the United States. On live match pages, your browser also connects directly to third-party live match data and video services, which receive your IP address and the match being viewed.
We process your data on the basis of [legal basis, e.g. our legitimate interest in running our community game] and keep it for [retention, e.g. as long as you play and [N] months after your last activity].
The sportsbook stores a session token and your preferences (such as your betslip, odds format and favourite matches) in your browser, plus a cookie that keeps your session for up to 12 hours. It does not use advertising or analytics. [Optional, only if matches on your sportsbook can show streams: On some live matches you can choose to watch a stream from Twitch, YouTube or Kick. The stream player loads only if you click to watch it. The platform then receives your IP address and may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.]
